Wonder Woman bringing a new force to women’s suffrage

Rumors surfaced last week from Bleedingcool.com that the upcoming “Wonder Woman” film, set to release in June of 2017, will be set in the 1920’s.

The 1920’s were an interesting time in American history, and were a triumphant time for women. With the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, women were finally given the right to vote. With women just earning a voice in America and the plethora of iconic moments earning it names like ‘The Roaring Twenties” or “The Jazz Age,” this would definitely be an interesting time to introduce not just any superhero, but a female superhero.

The actress picked to portray Paradise Island’s prodigal daughter is Gal Gadot, who has most recently appeared in the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Gadot is an Israeli actress and model, and is one tough cookie. Given her past action stints, it seems right to cast her to bring a nice superhuman beat down to the 1920’s era and be a beacon for women’s suffrage. Let’s not forget her foreign accent, which proves it’s right to cast her. Wonder Woman is an Amazon woman based off of Greek mythology, and is from Turkey. In DC comics they say her home is located somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle, so either way casting someone with an accent seems like a smart move.

Wonder Woman will make her first appearance in the upcoming “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which is presumably set in the present day. This means that most likely she will be much more experienced than Batman and Superman if she truly did leave her home and come to America 90 years ago. When she’s with her all-female society back home, she is immortal. When she leaves, however, she renounces her immortality. With this rumor, it must mean she ages extremely slowly, or there’s something else we’re missing.

It’s important to remember that these are, in fact, rumors. We’ll have to wait a little while for more information to leak, and a lot longer for the movies to come out, but the wait will be worth it. Hopefully Princess Diana (Wonder Woman) can have some fun smacking around some close-minded people in her origin story, if the 20’s rumor is true.
