Celia Barquin’s fast freshman start for ISU women’s golf

Freshman Celia Barquin has not wasted any time in making an impact for the ISU women’s golf team. The No. 73 amateur in the world, according to the World Amateur Golf Rankings, has yet to record a round in the 80s and leads the team in stroke average. Here’s a look at the impact she has made thus far:

– After posting two sub-par rounds at the Stanford Intercollegiate to finish in a tie for 12th place, Barquin has as many sub-par rounds (four) as the rest of Iowa State’s starting lineup combined.

– Through four tournaments and 12 individual rounds, Barquin has posted a 73.08 stroke average, which is best on the team by nearly a full shot (Chonlada Chayanun is second at 73.92).

– All 12 individual rounds matched or beat the average score of the field during that round.

– Barquin has led or co-led the Cyclones in three of four events and has finished on the upper-half of the individual leaderboard in each event.
