Cyclone Hockey holds on for win

Coming on the heels of a two-game sweep last weekend, Cyclone Hockey held on for a 4-2 victory against the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines Oct. 24 at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.

The No. 24 Cyclones (2-4-2) gained control of the game early, grabbing the first goal with a Trevor Lloyd shot that knocked off the Wolverine goaltender’s pads and in.

Eero Helanto extended that lead to two after chipping in a puck in front of the net, and just 29 seconds later, Alex Grouse scored in similar fashion to put the Cyclones up 3-0 heading into intermission.

No. 13 Michigan-Dearborn (6-3-3) wasn’t out of the game, however, scoring two quick goals early in the second period to pull within one.

The intensity of the game ramped up after a fight between J.P. Kascsak and Jase Paciocco. Paciocco was handed a game misconduct call that exited him from the game. Going into the second intermission, the Cyclones led 3-2.

With the lead dwindled to one, the Cyclones came out and scored a goal in third period to extend their lead and secure the win.

Cyclone Hockey plays Michigan-Dearborn with a shot for a sweep at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
