Redshirt freshman Erin Hooker began running cross country when she was in eighth grade.

By the time she was a sophomore at Fort Collins High School, Hooker became the 2010 state cross-country runner-up in Colorado. As a senior, Hooker became the 2013 Colorado High School 5A state champion in the 3200-meter.

Hooker was also named Front Range League Female Athlete of the Year in 2013.

“I loved other sports, but I wasn’t necessarily very talented in them,” Hooker said. “[My parents] said to just give [cross country] a try.”

During her senior season, Hooker decided to take her talents to Ames and join the ISU women’s cross country team. Hooker said she chose Iowa State because of the great facilities it possesses, along with the welcoming of cross country runners on the team.
