Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants; World Series preview

Christian Dahl

Tonight marks the start of the 2014 World Series, the finale to what has been quite the year for the MLB. Dubbed “Destiny vs. Dynasty”, the two teams competing, the Kansas City Royals and the San Francisco Giants respectively, are two teams with opposite recent histories.

The Giants are looking for their third World Series title in five years, while the Royals have not made the postseason, let alone the World Series, in 29 years.

Wait a minute though, just because recent history says the Giants may have success in this series, does not mean the young, energetic Royals will just roll over. The Royals, who have yet to lose this postseason, are an interesting team to come out of the American League.

Historically, the American League is predominately lead by teams with high payrolls and even higher home run rates. The Royals, on the other hand, have built their success on defense and speed. The Giants are always a favorite to come out of the National League due to their aforementioned recent success. Their roster is full of veterans who have been there before and know what it takes to win a title, with the Royals having a player that was just in the College World Series this past June.

With rosters composed of players from different backgrounds and experiences, but with similar emphasis on pitching and defense, this series should be interesting to watch unfold. Stay with us at The Daily for more developments as the series progresses.
