San Francisco Giants take game one with a decisive win over Royals

Going into Tuesday night, the Kansas City Royals had not lost a game this postseason, riding an eight win, zero loss wave into the World Series. Not only did their win streak end Tuesday, it ended in a crushing fashion.

Currently on a hot streak of their own, the Giants improve to nine wins and two losses this postseason, and are three wins away from being crowned World Series Champions. Two opposing themes came to light earlier in game one, with that being each team’s starting pitching. On one hand, we have Madison Bumgarner, who was in control for San Francisco on the mound from the get-go.

Inversely, there is James Shields, with rumors spewing that he may find a new home this offseason in free agency, there is a chance he could have taken the bump for the last time in a Royal’s Jersey.

From their first plate appearance, the Giants meant business, not letting Shields settle until he was pulled in the fourth inning. As far as slugging goes, Hunter Pence and Pablo Sandoval lead the way for the Giants, with two runs batted in by each. We saw little offense from the Royals, as their entire lineup grabbed just four hits, which barely surpassed half the amount of runs scored by their opponents.

Taking game one on the road is a crucial move for the Giants, who have now taken back the home field advantage that the American League and The Royals earned in this summer’s All Star Game. Though the momentum may be with Giants as of now, look for the Royals to show some additional urgency in game two today and look to even the series up before headed to San Francisco.
