The Price is Right LIVE Comes to Stephens Auditorium

Sam Vander Forest

The live version of the hit CBS daytime game show “The Price is Right” will be coming to Stephens Auditorium on Nov. 18.

Tickets for the live event go on sale this Friday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. for the general public. Certain pre-sales have already begun, and the code for ISU students to join the pre-sale is “BARKER.” You only need to pay to attend the show; there is no cost to be a contestant. Purchasing your ticket to attend will not increase your chances being selected to play.

Ticket prices range from roughly $30 to $60. The $60 ticket will get you right up behind the orchestra pit. Spending $50 will get you in the last rows of same floor section, as well as the first and second balconies. The $30 to $40 range will get you roughly in the farthest seats and the sides. Tickets can be purchased through ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or the Stephens Auditorium Ticket Office that is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To register to be a contestant, visit the link to the Registration Website. Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 17, and you must be a legal resident of the U.S. and over 18 years of age.

About the Show:

The live version of the 8-time Emmy Award-winning show has been going on for nearly 10 years and has given away nearly $10 million in prizes. “The Price is Right LIVE” is an interactive, stage version of the show that pulls people straight out of the audience to play games from the original show and win prizes.

Audience members have a chance to “Come on Down” and win prizes such as appliances, vacations or even a new car, according to a Stephens Auditorium’s press release. The games the audience members commonly play during the live show include Plinko, Cliffhangers, the Big Wheel, Punch-a-Bunch and even the Showcase.

Host Speculations:

One past host of the live show was Pat Finn who hosted other game shows such as “Shop ‘til You Drop,” and “The Big Spin.” Other big names that have hosted the live version of the show are Jerry Springer, Alan Thicke (father of Robin Thicke), Joey Fatone (‘N Sync) and Marc Summers (Unwrapped).

Ames residents and ISU students are probably already speculating who will be the host, but it seems too early to tell and too hard to predict.

Best Shirts To Get You On TV:

Whether you get called up as a contestant or not, it’s always exciting to get some airtime. There are different ways to approach your shirt design, but make sure to put some thought into it. Being creative with your idea is going to be tough since it is the longest running game show on daytime TV, but here is a compilation of some of the best we’ve seen as well as some ways to get inspired.

  • Draw inspiration from the host. This is tough since you don’t know who the host is going to be, but you can joke about Bob Barker or Drew Carey. Be sure not to be rude to the host though, it might not end well for you.
  • Figure out who the announcer will be and give him a shout out. He might get forgotten about quite frequently.
  • You could use the classic catch phrases like, “Contestant’s Row,” “Come On Down,” and others. Watch the show before you go to find a phrase or game you like, and be sure to know how to play!
  • Give a shout out to your hometown, family or friends; we all know they’ll love that.
  • Since this is a college town you can wear your Greek letters, or if you’re not Greek you can represent your dorm, building or major.
  • Go big with lights. Some contestants in the past were able to actually get Christmas lights to work and wore them to the show. This is a university of science and technology, so someone should be able to figure that out.
