After making a complete turnaround in the first half and scoring four straight touchdowns, ISU football dropped a heartbreaker to Kansas State.

Kansas State (2-0, 1-0) came out firing on all cylinders, capping a five-play, 2:01 drive with a four-yard touchdown to start the game. The Wildcats kicked field goals on their next two drives, putting the score at 13-0.

Near the end of the first quarter, Iowa State (0-2, 0-1) scored its first of four straight touchdowns on a 17-yard pass from Sam Richardson to Jarvis West, which was just the start of West’s day.

Just after the second quarter began, West fielded a punt and took it 82 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. The defense also started to click after a lackluster performance in the first quarter, stopping Kansas State and putting pressure on quarterback Jake Waters.

Iowa State scored two more times in the second quarter, including a double reverse pass from West to true freshman Allen Lazard, who is starting in place of the injured Quenton Bundrage.

On Kansas State’s ensuing drive, Waters would sneak it in from the one yard line to put the score at 28-20 before the first half came to a close.

After a scoreless third quarter, Kansas State mounted and finished a comeback in the fourth. The Wildcats scored on a four-yard run from Charles Jones and then an 8-yard run from Waters with 1:30 left.

Iowa State got the ball back and drove into Kansas State territory before Sam Richardson was sacked on fourth down, giving Kansas State the ball with less than 30 seconds left.

Iowa State finished the day with 319 yards of total offense while Kansas State finished with 471 yards of total offense.
