The Cyclones came away with a win in their home opener as they defeated the St. Louis Billikens 2-1.

The Cyclones appeared to be cruising to an easy victory after Koree Willer found the back of the net in the 26th minute off of an Adalie Schmidt assist.

Willer returned the favor in the 71st minute, as Schmidt found the net off of a Koree Willer assist.

The Billikens did not go away easily, however, as they scored off of a header in the 76th minute. The goal seemed to fire up the St. Louis squad, who frantically pressured the Cyclones the remainder of the game.

St. Louis kept the pressure on and had numerous scoring chances. Ultimately, the Cyclone defense and goalkeeper Andrea Swanson were able to turn away the scoring attempts and hold on to a 2-1 victory.

The win puts the Cyclone’s record at 2-2 on the season as they go into the annual Cy-Hawk series against the University of Iowa.

The Cy-Hawk series will be played at home, as the Hawkeyes travel to Ames on Friday, Sept. 5th.
