ISU soccer breaks record in season-opening win

The ISU women’s soccer team kicked off the season Friday with a 5-1 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The win is the first under ISU head coach Tony Minatta.

Iowa State’s five goals went down as the most goals scored in a season opener since the program’s first year in 1996.

Two of the five Cyclone goals came from sophomore Adalie Schmidt. Redshirt senior Margaret Powers, sophomore Koree Willer and senior Maggie Bruckman all scored goals as well.

Senior goalkeeper Andrea Swanson recorded five saves, bringing her career total to 165 saves.

Iowa State will take on Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. this Sunday at 1 p.m.
