ISU men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg will have his pacemaker replaced July 15 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., an ISU athletic department spokesperson confirmed. The operation is set to begin at 5:30 a.m.

In 2005, while Hoiberg was a player for the Minnesota Timberwolves, he underwent heart surgery to remove an enlargement on his aortic root. The surgery fixed a bulge in the root where the artery meets the heart’s aortic valve and he received a pacemaker. Hoiberg retired from the NBA a year later.

Hoiberg then worked in the front office of the Timberwolves organization before joining Iowa State as the men’s basketball coach in 2010. Hoiberg has led the ISU men’s basketball team to three-straight NCAA tournaments.

On Monday night, Hoiberg tweeted “I truly can’t put it into words how much the love & support means to me. Thank you everyone…”
