The Iowa State wrestling team started competition today at the NWCA National Duals in Columbus, Ohio. The No. 17 Cyclones split on the day, losing to Kent State in the opening rounds, but recovered to defeat Hofstra later in the day.

The Cyclones battled with Kent State early on, rallying back from a seven-point deficit to tie up the match heading into the last match. Kent State prevailed, however, defeating Iowa State 19-16.

The Cyclones regrouped quickly, and went on to face Hofstra in the second round of the tournament. Iowa State didn’t waste a second this time around, jumping to an early 9-0 lead.

Following the midway point, Iowa State came out with something to prove. They came up with four straight pins from Mike Moreno, Tanner Weatherman, Boaz Beard and Kyven Gadson, respectively, bringing the score to 33-9.

The Cyclones won 36-9 over Hofstra, winning eight matches in the dual.

They will compete again in the third round tomorrow, when they take on either Oklahoma or Central Michigan at 11:00 am.
