It proved to be a long day for the Cyclones on Sunday when the wrestling team hosted No. 4 Iowa in the annual Cy-Hawk series. Iowa won 7 of 10 matches against Iowa State, taking the meet 23-9.

Iowa has now won the last 10 dual meets between the two schools, and leads the all-time series 62-16-2.

Kyven Gadson recorded the first win for Iowa State, defeating Iowa’s Sam Brooks 3-2.

ISU heavyweight Quean Smith was next on the mat. His match may have had one of the most exciting finishes of the day, when Smith defeated Terrance Jean-Jacques in overtime, 6-4.

Iowa State went on to lose five of the next six matches. The Cyclones only late win came by Luke Goettl, who defeated No. 17 Mike Kelly 4-2 with a last-second takedown.

The Hawkeyes move to 4-0 on the year, while the Cyclones fall to 5-1.
