DES MOINES – In their fourth game this season, the Cyclones won by more than 40 points to give ISU coach Bill Fennelly his 400th career victory at Iowa State.

The No. 22 ISU women’s basketball team (4-0, 0-0 Big 12) defeated in-state rival Drake (2-3, 0-0 Missouri Valley) 89-47 in Des Moines on Sunday, Nov. 24. Iowa State had four players who scored double-digit points during the game.

“Always great to win these games. I thought our kids played great,” Fennelly said. “These in-state games are important to our fan base and certainly to our program. … Great team effort, nice to see everyone getting in and do some good things.”

Iowa State started the game off down 2-0 but took the lead almost two minutes into the game after a 3-pointer by senior forward Hallie Christofferson. The Bulldogs would trail for the rest of the game.

Drake came within four points of Iowa State with 5:29 remaining in the first half. The Cyclones went on a 13-0 run before half time. In the second half, Iowa State responded to back-to-back threes by Drake with another 12-0 run.

During the game, Christofferson led Iowa State with 25 points. She has now scored 25 or more points in all four of Iowa State’s games this season.

“[Christofferson is] extremely efficient. She scored a lot of points on not many shots. She’s patient. She doesn’t force anything,” Fennelly said. “When you can shoot the three, post up and make free throws, you’re hard to guard.”

Christofferson had two 3-pointers against the Bulldogs and made seven-of-eight free throws. She added four rebounds to Iowa State’s win Sunday.

“I just rely on my teammates to pass the ball around. Once somebody hits a shot we got a lot of energy off that,” Christofferson said.

Freshman guard Seanna Johnson had her first career double-double during the win against Drake. She scored 14 points and added 11 rebounds and one assist on the afternoon.

Sophomore forward Brynn Williamson led Iowa State from beyond the arc. She had 14 points including three 3-pointers on the afternoon. Freshman guard Jadda Buckley was the last Cyclone in double-digit points with 11.

“We were moving the ball around in our offense. We were able to get a lot of open shots on the outside and knock them down,” Christofferson said.
