Former ISU men’s basketball player Bubu Palo will appeal his removal from the team to the Iowa Board of Regents, the Ames Tribune reported Friday night.

Palo was charged in September 2012 with second degree sexual abuse related to an incident in May 2012. Palo was originally suspended from the basketball team indefinitely pending the investigation, and when charges were dropped in January, he was reinstated.

Palo was also originally also found innocent of a violation of the ISU Office of Judicial Affairs’ Student Code of Conduct. But after an appeal this summer, that decision was overturned, and on Aug. 31, Iowa State announced Palo would no longer be a member of the ISU men’s basketball team.

It was previously reported by multiple news outlets in September that the appeal decision was made by ISU President Steven Leath. Palo confirmed to the Tribune on Friday that he will now appeal that decision to the Board of Regents.

The Daily has reached out the Palo for comment.
