ISU track and field team heads to NCAA West Regionals

24 members of the ISU track and field team will vie for chance to compete at the NCAA Championships, as they compete at the NCAA West Regional this weekend.

The band of runners and throwers is comprised of seven athletes from the men’s team and 17 athletes from the women’s team. The top 12 in each individual event will advance to the NCAA Championships, while the top 24 relay teams nationally will advance.

Two-time national champion Betsy Saina will lead the women with her teammate and four-time All-American Meaghan Nelson. Nelson and Saina are both competing in the women’s 5,000m and 10,000m races.

Senior Ian Warner will run the 100m, while sophomore Nick Efkamp rounds out the sprinters for the Cyclones, competing in both the 200m and 400m. Senior Rico Loy and junior Mohamed Hrezi will both compete in the 5,000m. Hrezi will also run in the 10,000m.

The men’s field participants are represented by Jan Jeuschede and Zack Richards, while Christina Hillman, Danielle Frere, Hayli Bozarth, and Laishema Hampton will throw for the women’s team.

The NCAA West Regionals will take place in Austin, Texas., May 23-25. The NCAA Championships will be held in Eugene, Ore., June 5-8
