Saina, Cyclones compete at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Distance runner Betsy Saina was unable to defend her national title in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing second with a time of 15:33.66 seconds.

Dartmouth’s Abbey D’Agostino won the race with a time of 15:28.11. After Friday, Saina has earned All-America honors eight times.

Saina will compete in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Complex, an event of which she finished third last year.

Cyclone senior Ejiro Okoro finished second in her heat in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.10 and will compete in the final on Saturday.

For the men, Edward Kemboi competed in the 800-meter run and finished with a time of 1:51 seconds and did not qualify for the finals.

Sophomore Nick Efkamp finished third in his heat of the 400-meter race with a time of 46.88. Efkamp did not qualify to compete in the finals.

Sophomore Christina Hillman and senior Danielle Frere will compete Saturday in the shot put event. Hillman is the No. 2 seed in the event.
