Former Cyclone White leaves D-League

Following a short stint in the NBA D-League, former ISU forward Royce White is leaving the team after a team doctor recommended the move.

After a long battle with the Houston Rockets following his selection in the 2012 NBA Draft, White was sent to the Rockets’ NBA D-League affiliate in Rio Grande on Feb. 11. White suffers from anxiety and he and the team disagreed on how to handle his situation. 

White, who was selected 16th overall in last year’s draft, was suspended Jan. 6 for “refusing to provide services as required by his Uniform Player Contract,” the Rockets announced at the time. White and the Rockets eventually reached and agreement and he was sent to the team’s D-league affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

On Thursday, White that he would be leaving the D-League via Twitter.

“Have been advised by our team physician it is most logical I be in Houston the remainder of the season,” White tweeted. “Thank you [Rio Grande Vipers] for having me.”

White will return to Houston to work out, but will not be joining the Rockets. The forward tweeted that he is working out to “transition to next year.”
