Kristin Peterson

The Cyclones faced No. 67 UNLV on Feb. 24 and suffered a 7-0 loss in Las Vegas.

The Cyclones are now 1-5 for the spring season while UNLV moves to 6-3.

Simona Cacciuttolo, at first singles, had a very close match leading into a third set against No. 19 Aleksandra Josifoska. Cacciuttolo lost in the third set 6-2, 4-6, 0-1 (6-10).

Jenna Langhorst also had a close match, losing in the third set to Janine Erasmus 7-6, 4-6, 0-1 (4-10) at No. 5 singles.

As their first ranked team of the season, UNLV gave the Cyclones a taste of the level of play to come for conference matches.

Iowa State and Kansas are currently the only two unranked women’s tennis teams in the Big 12 Conference bringing more challenges for the Cyclones to come.

The Cyclones will compete again next weekend in Seattle against Portland on Saturday and Washington on March 3.
