The No. 15 ISU hockey team defeated Iowa by a score of 4-0 on Friday night in Ames.

ISU forward Jon Toigo made his first appearance for the Cyclones against the Hawkeyes and was on the starting line. He notched his first assist and narrowly missed scoring his first goal late in the third period.

Austin Parle scored two goals in the second period. Paul Karus got the shutout for the Cyclones.

The Hawkeyes made it hard for the Cyclones for most of the first period, but that changed when ISU forward Trevor Lloyd scored from the faceoff circle to the left of UI goaltender Jonathon Krueger off a pass from Toigo.

The Cyclones started fast in the second period with a goal two minutes and 29 seconds into the period.

Tony Martirosian carried the puck along the boards and into the corner before sending a pass across the slot for a J.P. Kascsak one-timer to give the Cyclones a two-goal lead. That was Kascsak’s 13th goal of the season.

ISU forward Austin Parle scored a shorthanded goal 11:39 into the second period after receiving a pass from across the Hawkeyes’ zone from Derek Kohles. Parle deked around a UI defender and Krueger to put the Cyclones up 3-0.

Parle wasn’t finished before the end of the second period. Huber passed the puck out front and Parle sent a one-timer over Krueger’s right shoulder for a 4-0 Cyclone lead.

The Cyclones had a goal waved off due to a crosschecking penalty by Bueltel in the second period.

The Cyclones play the Hawkeyes again at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
