Strong shooting helped the ISU women’s basketball team kick off the Cyclone Challenge with a victory Saturday.

The Cyclones (8-1) defeated Air Force (1-10) 83-35 behind a career day from Nicole Blaskowsky. The freshman led the Cyclones with 26 points, aided by 8-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc.

Iowa State made nine of 10 shots to begin the second half — going 6-of-8 on 3-pointers in that stretch — to build on its 37-10 lead that the team entered with at halftime.

Nikki Moody had eight assists for the Cyclones in the win and Chelsea Poppens led the team with 11 rebounds.

The Cyclones will move on to face Alabama on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
