Iowa State sweeps weekend series against West Virginia

Coming off of a 7-2 win, the Cyclone Hockey club (11-10-1) was hoping to complete its weekend sweep of the Mountaineers (3-9) on Saturday.

Neither team seemed too eager to score to begin the game, bringing the first period to a scoreless close.

West Virginia, however, came out fast in the second period, scoring just 33 seconds into the period. Iowa State responded with a goal from sophomore forward James Buttermore to even the score at 1-1.

Heading toward another scoreless period in the third, senior defenseman Brandon Clark added a late goal for the Cyclones to take the lead and eventually secure the win and sweep of the Mountaineers.

Iowa State returns to the ice against the University of Central Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 and at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
