The slew of transfers on the ISU men’s basketball team just got bigger.

Maurice Jones, a 5-foot-7 guard from the University of Southern California, will be transferring to Iowa State, according to a news release.

Jones averaged 13 points and 3.5 assists for the Trojans last season and started 57 games during his two-year stint at USC.

“I am really excited to start over and be a part of a program on the rise like Iowa State,” Jones said in the news release. “I am really looking forward to being a part of the Cyclone program.”

The Michigan native attended high school at Arthur Hill and played against fellow Cyclone Sherron Dorsey-Walker, who attended Detroit Pershing. In 2009, Jones scored a school-record 49 points against Pershing when Walker was a freshman, but Pershing went on to win the game and Class A state tile.

Jones is now the seventh transfer on roster for coach Fred Hoiberg and will begin classes in the spring. Due to NCAA regulations, Jones will not play this season, but will have two more years of eligibility beginning next season.
