Former ISU defensive end Jake Lattimer, who started in all 13 games last season, was arrested early Friday morning for interference with official acts, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

According to the complaint and affidavit, an officer patrolling Campustown on foot came across a group of individuals pushing and yelling at each other at the corner of Welch Avenue and Chamberlain Street.

As the officer approached, two individuals — one of whom was Lattimer — grabbed each other and went to the ground swinging fists. After getting up from the ground, Lattimer began walking away with his shirt torn and falling off from the confrontation.

The officer instructed Lattimer to wait at the corner of the street while he attended to the individual on the ground. However, when the officer turned, Lattimer began running away.

The officer chased Lattimer through several parking lots and into the 300 block of Stanton Avenue. There, Lattimer slowed down but still refused to comply with the officer. The officer used pepper spray on Lattimer, took him to the ground and placed him into custody at 2:01 a.m.

Lattimer, who, according to the complaint and affidavit, “had a strong odor of ingested alcohol emitting from his facial area,” took a preliminary breath test and registered a .194 blood-alcohol content level. The reason for Lattimer’s interference with official acts was due to running from a police officer and failing to stop when lawfully instructed to do so.

Lattimer was transferred to the Story County Jail where he was released after posting bail later Friday morning.

Lattimer has had two previous fighting incidences since 2009. In March 2011, Lattimer was arrested and charged with interference with official acts and assault on a peace officer. The charge of interference with official acts was dropped but Lattimer pleaded guilty to the assault on a peace officer charge in June.

Also, Lattimer pleaded guilty to aggravated battery charges in November 2009 stemming from an incident in Hutchinson, Kan., in May 2009.

The Fort Scott, Kan., native led all ISU defensive linemen last season with 43 total tackles, including six tackles for loss, three sacks and a fumble recovery. Lattimer finished his ISU career with 85 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss seven sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
