The ISU softball team completed day three of its three-game showdown with No. 5 Texas on Sunday.

The Longhorns (26-2, 5-0 Big 12) proved too much for the Cyclones (9-18, 0-3), coming away with the 11-2 thumping to cap off a weekend sweep.

Action started early in the game as the Cyclones scored two in the first before the Longhorns answered right back with a run in the first and second innings.

The 2-2 tie was broken in the third inning, however, as the Longhorns were able to score eight runs in the inning including a solo home-run, a two run home-run and a grand slam.

Junior pitcher Tori Torrescano was the starting pitcher for the Cyclones, pitching 2.1 innings giving up five hits and five runs before she was replaced in the top of the third by Madison Jones.

Jones made a brief appearance in the inning, allowing three hits and four runs before she was replaced as well in the third by Breeanna Holiday after giving up the grand slam.

Holliday entered the game and pitched the remainder of the game. She allowed two hits and two runs in her 2.2 innings of work.

Iowa State was not able to bring the score closer as they were held scoreless through the next four innings. The game ended on a called strike out against the Cyclones.

Iowa State will have to regroup quickly as they will host Northern Iowa in Ames on Tuesday. Action is set to begin at 4 p.m.
