Iowa State redshirt freshman defensive back Matthew Thomas has been charged with fourth-degree theft, stemming from an incident last week at Seasons Marketplace dining center.

Iowa State University police Lt. Elliott Florer said a woman reported on Feb. 2 that her Apple iPod had been stolen off the table that she was sitting at.

The woman reported the incident to Seasons Dining Center management, who then reviewed their surveillance tapes to see if they could determine the thief. The woman also met with ISU Police, and Florer said after looking at the surveillance video that a person matching Thomas’ description was seen on the tape.

ISU Police served a search warrant to Thomas on Feb. 2, but were unable to find the iPod at his residence. Thomas turned himself in at the Story County jail at 8:56 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Thomas posted bond and was released at 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

ISU Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications Tom Kroeschell told the Daily on Wednesday that Thomas has been suspended indefinitely. Thomas, a native of Lancaster, Texas, redshirted in 2010 and spent 2011 behind starting junior cornerback Jeremy Reeves on the depth chart.
