Iowa State cut Texas’ lead to three with less than 30 seconds to play but couldn’t overcome its worst shooting night of the season as the Longhorns outlasted the Cyclones 62-55 in Austin, Texas.

The Cyclones (14-6, 4-3 Big 12) shot a season-low 33 percent — 20-of-60 — from the field, including 5-of-21 from 3 as they fell nearly 20 points short of their 73.3 points per game average in Big 12 play.

Down by 18 at one point in the second half, ISU senior guard Chris Allen cut the UT lead to five with 38 seconds remaining, and junior guard Chris Babb drained a 3 with 25.2 seconds left to cut it to 58-55. However, after Texas junior guard J’Covan Brown was fouled and made both free throws, freshman guard Myck Kabongo forced an Allen turnover and took it down the floor for a layup to seal the win.

Kabongo scored 13 points to lead the Longhorns (13-7, 3-4), who snapped a three-game skid in conference play.

ISU forward Royce White finished the game with 15 points and 15 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore forward Melvin Ejim chipped in with 12 points.

The Cyclones jumped out to a 13-8 lead behind nine points from White, but Texas capitalized on 31 percent shooting from Iowa State as the Cyclones trailed at the break to go on a 15-2 run and take a 28-22 lead at the break.

Iowa State will return home to face No. 5 Kansas (17-3, 7-0 Big 12) at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hilton Coliseum.
