Cyclones outlast Providence, move to 4-1

The ISU men’s basketball team got its first win away from Hilton Coliseum on Friday night, getting past Providence 64-54 in a third-round game of the South Padre Iniviational in South Padre Island, Texas.

Guard Chris Allen led the way for the Cyclones, finishing the game with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range. Junior Tyrus McGee also added 14 points, going 2-for-8 from beyond the arc himself. As a team, Iowa State shot 39.2 percent on the night.

Forward Royce White, who has led the Cyclones’ scoring attack for most of the season to date, only put up five points, but amassed 16 total rebounds in the game.

Iowa State lost the turnover battle, committing 15 while only forcing five, but the Cyclones easily won the rebounding battle, grabbing 42 team rebounds, while the Friars collected 24.

The win moved the Cyclones to 4-1 on the season and kept their record perfect in the South Padre Invitational.

Iowa State’s next opponent in the Invitational is Rice. The Cyclones and Owls face off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
