Cyclones fall 1-0 in final seconds to Cowgirls

Iowa State hung with No. 2 Oklahoma State for 89 minutes and change on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough as the Cowgirls scored as time expired to win 1-0 at the ISU Soccer Complex.

Both teams had several scoring opportunities throughout the first and second halves, but the defenses stepped up to keep the 0-0 tie until the 14-0-0 Cowgirls found the net with two seconds left in the half.

Several balls found their way into the box during the final minute and OSU senior forward Krista Lopez crossed a ball in front of the net and it ricocheted off a teammate’s foot for the game-winner.

The loss drops ISU to 6-6-1 overall this season and 0-3 in the Big 12 but the Cyclones will get a chance to rebound when Baylor visits Ames on Sunday. Admission is free to all games this season and kickoff begins at 5 p.m.
