The ISU soccer team lost 2-1 to Texas in Austin, Texas, in its second match of the weekend Sunday.

The struggle to score goals against Texas A&M on Friday continued for the Cyclones (6-5-1, 0-2 Big 12), as they were out-shot 17-6 by Texas (7-3, 1-1) and lost the corner kick battle 8-0 as well.

Sophomore Maddie Jobe got her first start in goal since Sept. 2 against UW-Milwaukee and kept the game scoreless for the first 22 minutes before the Longhorns’ Nina Frausing Pedersen found the back of the net on a free kick from 40 yards out.

Jobe finished out the half with one save, and freshman Andrea Swanson took over after halftime. The Cyclone defense held the Longhorns for another 34 minutes into the second half until Texas strengthened its lead with a goal from Taylor Knaak in the 79th minute.

ISU sophomore Jennifer Dominguez answered back five minutes later to shorten the lead back to one, assisted by sophomore Brittany Morgan. Unfortunately for the Cyclones, the offense came too late and the Longhorns held them scoreless for the remainder of the match.

The Cyclones get a bye next weekend before facing Oklahoma State and Baylor in Ames beginning Oct. 7.
