After losing their first match of the season on Friday night, the Cyclones were able to get back on track Sunday, beating Illinois State 2-0.

Iowa State (5-1-2) got off to a slow start and didn’t have a shot on goal until the 26th minute, but after a foul on Illinois State in the 31st minute, freshman Brittany Morgan got the ball past the Illinois State on a penalty kick to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

Late in the second half, Iowa State freshman Erin Green got off a shot and it was blocked by an Illinois State defender. Morgan received the ball off the rebound and found the back of the net once again.

Morgan’s two-goal game was the first two goal game for any single Cyclone this season.

Iowa State was out-shot in the game 15-12. Freshman keeper Maddie Jobe saved all five shots Illinois State had on goal.

The Cyclones will return home Friday to take on in-state rival Iowa.
