Unions begin negotiations for fiscal year

— Daily Staff

Two of the five unions that represent City of Ames employees will begin contract negotiations Monday for the 2010–2011 fiscal year.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which represents electric engineering, distribution and metering employees, and the Public Professional and Maintenance Employees, which represents police employees, will submit written proposals to the city’s human resources department on Monday.

The city will then present its proposals in two open meetings, first with IEBW on Oct. 27, and then with PPME on Oct. 29.

Ames’ remaining three unions are under multi-year contracts which are not up for renewal.
