Young singers audition for Met Opera

The public is invited to attend opera stars audition for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, for the Iowa District on at noon, Saturday, at the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall in Music Hall.

The event is an opportunity to hear 10 opera singers perform. Individuals must sing five arias of different styles and languages. The singers vie for cash prizes and to advance to regional and national competition. Up to five national winners receive $15,000 each.

Iowa native Simon Estes is among the judges. A reception will be held afterwards for the audience and singers. The event is free.

Dawn Bruch, soprano from Winnipeg, Canada, member of the Manitoba Opera Co.

Kate Crist, soprano from Cedar Falls, current student at University of Northern Iowa

Matthew Curtis, tenor from La Crosse, Wis., current student at University of Minnesota

Tana Field, mezzo from Highland, N.Y., current faculty member at Luther College

Shannon Prickett, soprano from West Burlington, current student at Simpson College

Jeff Ronne, Jr., tenor from Cannon Falls, Minn.

Nathaniel Schmidt, bass from Indianola, current student at Simpson College

Vivien Shotwell, mezzo from Iowa City, current student at University of Iowa

Jesse Stock, baritone from Indianola, current student at Simpson College
