CARROLL, Iowa — No injuries or hazardous material spills are reported in a train derailment in Carroll County in western Iowa.

Union Pacific spokesman Gene Hinkle says 24 platform cars derailed about 7 a.m. on Tuesday near Maple River Junction, about 4 miles west of Carroll.

The cars were part of a train with 103 cars and three locomotives.

Hinkle says the derailed platform cars haul big boxes loaded from ships and trucks. Hinkle says he didn’t immediately know if the cars were carrying any boxes.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
