FAYETTE (AP) – A lockdown at Upper Iowa University in Fayette is over after officials determined a report of a gunshot was actually a firecracker.

Spokeswoman Pam Reinig says officials didn’t immediately know who may have lit the firecracker.

She says the lockdown started about 11 a.m. Friday and lasted an hour.

She says an employee reported hearing a single shot on the southern edge of campus. Officials locked down the campus for the safety of students.

Reinig says no one has been injured.

Upper Iowa is a 6,000-student private school in northeast Iowa.
