UI sexual abuse defendant’s lawyer seeks hearing waiver

IOWA CITY – Former University of Iowa football player Abe Satterfield may not appear in court as scheduled next week.

Satterfield’s lawyer, Alfredo Parrish, filed an application Friday in Johnson County District Court to waive his client’s presence at the pretrial hearing. It is scheduled for Sept. 25.

Parrish says in the motion that Satterfield, who is attending college in Erie, Pa., does not expect to provide any testimony during the hearing.

Satterfield and former football player Cedric Everson were ordered to attend the pretrial hearing. That’s where a judge will decide if Satterfield can be tried separately from Everson, and if statements Satterfield made to coach Kirk Ferentz and other university officials will be suppressed.

Satterfield is charged with third-degree sexual abuse and aiding and abetting second-degree sexual abuse.
