Soccer drop season opener

The ISU soccer team came up short in their season opener, losing 3-1 to 19th-ranked Illinois in the second game of Illinois Challenge Cup.

Iowa State failed to respond to Illinois’ fast-paced offense, getting out-shot 16-4. The Cyclones took only one shot on in the first half.

After going down 2-0 in the second half, junior Lauren Odino scored the Cyclones’ lone goal in the 65th minute. The Illini eventually put the game out of reach, scoring with only five minutes remaining.

The Cyclones will face Pittsburgh on Sunday. Pittsburgh lost a heartbreaker in the first game of the tournament, losing in double overtime to the the Dayton Flyers. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
