DES MOINES — Authorities say two teenagers who were pulled from Saylorville Lake have died.

The Polk County sheriff’s office says rescuers were called to the lake north of Des Moines early Sunday evening.

Authorities say one swimmer had gone under the water and a second swimmer tried to help but also went under the water. Both victims were unconscious when they were pulled from the water.

They were taken to Des Moines hospitals where they later died.

The victims were identified as 17-year-old Luis Acosta and 16-year-old Marissa Paca, both of Ankeny.

The sheriff’s office says they were swimming about 15 yards from shore in an area not designated for swimming.
