They had to fight for it, but the ISU men’s basketball team got the victory Sunday night, beating EA Sports 74-63 at Hilton Coliseum.

Sophomore Wesley Johnson led the Cyclones with a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman Craig Brackins chipped in 17 points as Iowa State finished its exhibition season 2-0.

EA Sports took its first lead at 62-61 with 5:18 left in the second half, quieting the announced crowd of 13,934. But Iowa State pulled itself together and went on a 13-1 run to close the game and seal the victory.

The Cyclones opened the game on fire, hitting their first five shots, including three 3-pointers as they took a 14-5 lead. EA Sports made a late run, closing the margin to one with 4:15 left in the half, but Iowa State used a 17-8 run to head into the break up 47-37.

The second half was rough offensively for the Cyclones. The team went almost seven minutes without scoring as EA Sports closed to within three, 57-54. The teams traded buckets until two jumpers by Sean Haluska and a turnaround in the lane by Brackins got Iowa State rolling to finish the game off.

Haluska joined Johnson and Brackins in double figures with 12 points, while junior Bryan Petersen directed the offense with six assists.
