The ISU volleyball team won’t have the momentum it was hoping for going into Wednesday’s match with No. 1 Nebraska.

Despite getting an early 2-1 lead, the Cyclones couldn’t hold off the Sooners and fell, 3-2 (30-19, 24-30, 31-29, 26-30, 12-15), in Norman, Okla. on Saturday

Iowa State (11-6, 5-2 Big 12) was led by senior Erin Boeve’s 25 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore Kaylee Manns dished out 63 assists, matching her season high. Victoria Henson, Lauren Cummings and Mary Bisenius joined Boeve in double figures for kills, with 14, 13 and 11, respectively. Freshman Ashley Mass led the defense with 28 digs.

The Cyclones raced to a quick 16-5 lead in the first game before trading points the rest of the way for the win.

After dropping game two to the Sooners (14-3, 6-1 Big 12), Iowa State found itself tied 29-29 late in game three. After a Bisenius kill gave the Cyclones the lead, Oklahoma’s Bridget Laplante made an attack error to give the game to Iowa State.

The Cyclones trailed for most of game four. A late run fell short, setting up a decisive fifth game.

Iowa State appeared to be in control, leading 12-10 in a game played to 15, but Oklahoma didn’t give up.

The Sooners scored the last five points as Laplante tallied three kills to make up for her earlier error.

The Cyclones find themselves in fourth place in the conference standings, trailing top-ranked Nebraska with Texas and Oklahoma tied for second.
