Battle of the Bands

Bill Cleary

Tuesday’s Homecoming Battle of the Bands saw relative newcomers Sean Bright and The Evicted triumph over a group containing local stalwarts Thoughts of Crossing to win a coupon good for a free rehearsal at ProSound Ames, 57006 241st St.

This all-student ensemble has only been officially together for about two months, although guitarist Adam Hofman and drummer Evan Davis, both sophomores in music, played on frontman Sean Bright’s, freshman in music, solo recordings over the summer.

The addition of bassist Alex Rooney, sophomore in engineering, and a name inspired by an eviction notice on Bright and Hofman’s apartment, led to the current lineup.

Bright described the band’s sound as a light jam band, citing Dave Matthews Band and Limbeck as strong influences.

The band hopes to release an album, recorded over the summer, next month, and will attempt to arrange gigs at Bali Satay House, the Maintenance Shop and Club Element – so far, the band has not played any normal Ames venues.

From there, the band hopes to expand.

“We’re hoping the summer will be kind of an epiphany, and we can maybe tour,” Bright said. “We’ll see if it could be, maybe, a job.”
