The ISU volleyball team got stronger as its match went on Saturday, but could not get over the top against the Kansas State Wildcats.

The Cyclones (13-9, 7-5 Big 12) were sluggish out of the gate, but dominated game three before falling in a marathon game four. The 15th-ranked Wildcats (17-6, 9-4) took a one-game lead on Iowa State for fourth in the Big 12 standings with their 3-1 (30-24, 30-36, 20-30, 35-33) victory.

Senior Erin Boeve tied a school record with 12 block assists to go along with her 17 kills. Redshirt freshman Victoria Henson, senior Lauren Cummings and junior Jen Malcom all joined Boeve in double figures with 15, 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Sophomore Kaylee Manns had a double-double with 47 assists and 15 digs. Freshman Rachel Williams had nine kills in her first extensive play of the season.

The Cyclones fell behind 13-3 in game one and were unable to get within five as the Wildcats raced to a 30-24 victory.

In game two, Iowa State led 15-12 after five straight blocks, but could not even the match as Kansas State fought back for the 30-26 victory.

The Cyclones took a 10-3 lead in game three and finished off the victory over the Wildcats with a kill by Boeve. Iowa State held Kansas State, who hit .201 in the match, to a .056 hitting percentage in game three.

That set the stage for an incredible game four that included 12 lead changes. Both teams had game points but the Wildcats were able to finish their third one off with a block of Boeve to end the match.

Iowa State returns home with a match Wednesday against Colorado (5-16, 0-13), who is still winless in the Big 12 after being swept by Texas on Saturday.
