The ISU volleyball team started strong and finished the same way in their fourth consecutive sweep Saturday against 25th ranked Texas A&M.

Playing in front of a crowd of 1,242 at Hilton Coliseum, the Cyclones (8-4, 2-0 Big 12) won their seventh straight match, starting the night with a 10-2 run and using a 14-3 run in game three to close a three games to none victory (30-27, 30-27, 30-23).

The Cyclones haven’t had four straight sweeps since 1994 and had never won its first two Big 12 games before Saturday night. During the seven-match streak, the Cyclones have also defeated two ranked teams, Texas A&M and the 21st-ranked LSU Tigers.

Junior Amy Vos said the team has been working hard in practice and just wants to improve each time it takes the floor.

“We need to work on the little things,” Vos said. “We are trying to get together and we are gaining momentum and playing off of that.”

Erin Boeve’s 16 kills led a balanced hitting attack to strike down another opponent, as the Cyclones’ hitting percentage was .287 to the Aggie’s .168.

Mary Bisenius once again was in double digits in kills with 12. Coach Christy Johnson said Bisenius’s recent play has taken pressure off of the entire team.

“It takes pressure off our passers because they feel they don’t have to pass the ball perfectly and she can still get us kills,” Johnson said. “It also takes pressure off of every other hitter because they don’t have to put the ball away every time.”

The Cyclones moved around their lineup against the Aggies (10-2, 0-2 Big 12), which included switching up the middle blockers on the court, Jen Malcom and Diane Kieger. Malcom responded by tying her career high in kills with 12.

“We’re still trying to find ourselves and what lineup works best for us,” Johnson said.

Malcom said, once she got settled into the position switch, she started to get on a roll.

“We worked on it a lot in practice,” Malcom said. “I felt pretty comfortable towards the end.”

Iowa State also got key performance from Kaylee Manns, who had 53 assists in the short match, and Vos, who eclipsed her career-high in digs with 16.

The Cyclones next play on Wednesday against seventh-ranked Texas Longhorns in Austin.
