Volleyball Update: Bisenius makes big plays to charge struggling team

When the ISU volleyball team needed a spark Tuesday against Creighton, junior outside hitter Mary Bisenius provided it.

After having three kills in game one, Bisenius had four big kills that helped the Cyclones recover after trailing 11-8 and win game two.

Bisenius said she just wanted to get the adrenaline going and fire the team up.

“I just wanted to keep up the energy because that is when we play our best,” Bisenius said. “I was just so pumped up to get in there because I’ve been waiting to get in there for a while now.”

Even though the Cyclones eventually dropped the match 3-1 to the Bluejays, Bisenius’s eight kills ended up being the second-most kills she has ever had in a match, just behind the 10 she had against Missouri-Kansas City in 2006.

Coach Christy Johnson said Bisenius was ready to play when her opportunity came.

“She has been working really hard in practice,” Johnson said. “She stayed aggressive and really helped us out a lot.”

Bisenius said one of the biggest keys to her performance was the support of her teammates.

“They really pumped me up and got my adrenaline going,” Bisenius said.
