The 35th annual Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Football Game, which raises money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, has been set for July 21 in Jack Trice Stadium.

The game features 46 graduating high school seniors for the North and the South squads, and has raised over $1.93 million throughout its history.

The profits from the game benefit Iowa’s physically handicapped children, at the 22 facilities across North America that provide care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate.

The game raised $64,000 in 2001, $73,000 in 2002, $72,000 in 2003, $101,000 in 2004 and $80,000 in 2005.

The coach for the North is Jim Carver from Alburnett High School, and the coach for the South is Mike Cooper from Iowa City West High School.

Every fall, each Iowa high school coach recommends a defensive and offensive player for the team who he feels would be a good representative of his school by displaying athletic ability and academic prowess. From the athletes that are nominated, each coach selects the final 46.

Tickets for the game are $10. Those wishing to purchase tickets in advance should contact Jerry Hoffman at 276-3319.
