Swimmers start strong at Big 12s

The ISU swimming and diving team moved up to fourth place with 135 points after competition was completed at the Big 12 Championships on Thursday.

Texas A&M continues to lead with 316 points.

Senior Lauren Breuing placed fourth in the 200 IM and automatically qualified herself for the NCAA Championships with a school-record time of 2:00.31. That is five seconds faster than any time she has swum this year.

Also gaining points for the Cyclones were freshman Abby Glaser, senior Cassandra Nelson and freshman Frances Calzada, who placed 9th, 10th, and 13th in the 50 freestyle, respectively.

Freshman Tien Tran, sophomore Haley Haynes and sophomore Kali Fryklund placed 8th, 14th and 16th, respectively in the3-meter springboard competition.

The Cyclones also placed fourth in the 400 medley relay.
