The ISU wrestling team heads back on the road as it travels to Oklahoma this weekend.

The team will start in Norman, Okla., Friday where it will take on No. 9 Oklahoma at 7 p.m.

Iowa State won’t get a break, as the seventh-ranked Cyclones will then travel 85 miles north to Stillwater, Okla., where they will take on top-ranked Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Cyclones have had seven consecutive dual meets on the road, including losses to No. 19 Arizona State, No. 16 Pennsylvania and No. 17 Northern Iowa.

The grueling road season has caused numerous injuries for a team that started the season with two key injuries — 165-pounder Nick Passolano and heavyweight Scott Coleman.

Both Passolano and Coleman sat out early in the season with knee injuries, and Coleman has only wrestled three times to date.

Passolano has worked hard to recondition after missing valuable practice time. The junior from New Lennox, Ill., is 15-2 and ranked eighth since returning to the Cyclone lineup. He leads the Cyclones with four pins.

The Cyclones have had three other wrestlers miss significant time on the mat due to injury.

Sophomores Grant Nakamura and Nate Gallick wrestled for the first time in weeks against Northern Iowa last Saturday in Cedar Falls. Freshman standout Travis Paulson has yet to return to the mat after a knee injury in late December.

Gallick will face his toughest competition of the year when he goes up against Oklahoma’s Teyon Ware. Ware is the nation’s top-ranked wrestler at 141 pounds and Gallick is currently ranked fourth.

Senior two-time All-American Zach Roberson will also take on a tough foe as he tries to defend his No. 1 ranking. He will face Oklahoma State’s Johnny Thompson, last year’s national champion at 133 pounds.

After nine consecutive dual meets on the road, the Cyclones will return home to face No. 2 Nebraska Feb. 5.
