Slitheryn gets unique chance

Teenage metalheads across the country would do anything for the chance to meet Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor, but not many get that chance. Five kids from Chicago that call themselves Slitheryn got the chance to not only meet their heavy metal hero, but to have him produce their second E.P. also.

This gives you some idea of the buzz that these kids are generating in the industry. Slitheryn has done some extensive touring with Dope, and Edsel Dope can’t say enough about the band.

“Dude, age aside, they are just incredible,” Edsel admits. “I think the possibilities are endless with them. They’ve got one of the best … drummers in the world and the kid is only 16.”

The band revolves around the brother combination of drummer T-Bone and vocalist Frankie and specializes in brutally heavy music. Be careful about scoffing at the sight of a mere child fronting a heavy metal band — the kid is surprisingly impressive in the role.

“One thing I love about any band is going and seeing a band where I feel like the frontman controls the situation and comes up there and gives everything he has but expects certain things from the crowd and works it,” Edsel explains. “This kid is 13 years old, dude, and he does it better than most guys who are 30.”

Like many others who are familiar with the group, Edsel believes that with focus and hard work, Slitheryn has everything it takes to make it. The band will enter a Des Moines studio Monday to record some new tracks with Edsel sitting in as a temporary producer.
