The ISU baseball team is stating their case as they inch closer to the Big 12 tournament.

The Cyclones enjoyed two victories over No. 21 Texas on Friday and Saturday, beating the Longhorns 3-2 and 2-0 respectively.

On Friday the Cyclones used some late-inning heroics to conquer Texas, scoring all three of the teams runs in the ninth inning.

Pinch-hitter Jake Brown led off the bottom of the ninth with a double and two batters later he advanced to third on a single by T.J. Bohn.

Rob Conway drove in the first run for Iowa State with a single. Brandon Cashman singled to left and brought Bohn home to tie the game.

Joe Urban came through with the big hit, a game-winning single, scoring Conway from third.

Cyclone reliever Aaron Paterson was credited with his second win of the season.

Saturday Iowa State didn’t make it so dramatic, winning by a shutout, 2-0.

Alan Bomer pitched eight innings and improved his record to 5-4 on the year.

The Cyclones scored the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rob Conway and Brent Koen drove in the two runs.

The win improved Iowa State’s record to 19-22 and 9-10 in the conference.

Texas pitcher Justin Simmons took the loss after pitching 3 2/3 innings. He gave up both runs in the game.

The Longhorns record dropped to 30-21 overall, and their conference record now stands at 16-10.
