Letter to editor: Veishea worth saving

Curtis Cretin

Give Veishea a chance. Do not sign Mr. Duncan and Mr. Weavers petition. If it comes to the point of funding, vote against GSB cutting Veishea’s funding.

I served as the ISU representative on the Risk Management Committee last spring, and my job was to attend IRHA meetings and inform students how they could get involved in Veishea.

I was not happy to see that Mr. Duncan and Mr. Weaver do not feel Veishea can become successful again. I will take responsibility for reduced dorm participation, but I will defend my position by saying it is overwhelming to be the only one educating the 8,000 or so students in the residence halls about Veishea.

More people need to get involved with Veishea and educate others. I am unable to serve this year, but I will still try to get more residence hall students involved. My major goal is to have a Veishea co-chairs from the residence halls or Hawthorn Court.

I challenge all freshmen to get involved in Veishea so they can apply for co-chair down the road.

Veishea will be a success if we educate freshmen and let them get involved. This will not happen overnight. Wait five years.

When today’s freshmen become seniors, Veishea will be successful again, and they can decide what is best, not those of us who have seen Veishea dragged through the dirt.
